What is Citizen Science?

Citizen Science is a way anyone can help us to monitor and understand changes in both the diversity and abundance of wildlife we have across Birmingham and the Black Country. By letting us know the wildlife you see, whether in a local park, your garden or one of our nature reserves, it helps us to record vital information about the state of nature around us.

Citizen Science initiatives are becoming more common, and with technological innovations increasing the ways in which individuals can participate, projects can even become global in scale, long-term, and engage hundreds of thousands of volunteers.

Citizen science projects are a great way to learn more about our wonderful wildlife, at the same time as helping to protect it. Here are some of the citizen science projects you could get involved in with across Birmingham and the Black Country!
