In the run up to the West Midlands Combined Authority Mayoral election on 6th May, we asked for support in contacting each candidate to request that they commit to six key actions we believe will bring about a green recovery across our region. We're delighted that over 300 people joined us in doing so. 

Along with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Friends of the Earth, RSPB and the Woodland Trust, we also spoke to every candidate ahead of the election about the ecological and climate crises. Questions from the public were also put to candidates at our hustings event which had a live audience of 150 people - watch a recording on YouTube here.

You will have seen that following the election, Conservative candidate Andy Street was appointed as Mayor of the West Midlands.  Andy’s manifesto includes the following environmental commitments:

• Meet our #WM2041 target of becoming a net zero region by 2041
• Improve our public transport system to reduce emissions
• Accelerate industry moves towards green technology
• Reduce fuel bills and carbon emissions in the region’s homes
• Make the mass switch over to electric vehicles happen in the West Midlands
• Invest in nature to keep the West Midlands a great place to live
• Tackle the disgraceful litter and fly tipping in our region

We look forward to continuing to engage with West Midlands Combined Authority and the West Midlands Mayor to ensure that these manifesto commitments are properly delivered.
