Christopher Mills is our Wildlife Category Winner. The glorious yellow is bettered only by the exquisite detail in his photograph. This bee, gorging itself on pollen, conjures images of spring and summer days and doesn’t fail to lift the spirits. Urban Nature Category Winner
Lukas Large is our Urban Nature Category Winner. The joy of Lukas’s photograph is the wonderful juxtaposition between the wild and the urban. There’s an almost perfect divide between the fabulous fungi (hygrocybe conica) and the railway platform. And it helps that the railway is unmistakably of our region – that’s platform 2 at Five Ways on the Cross-City Line! Known as the witch’s hat, the orange of the stunning waxcap mushrooms is mirrored in the lampposts and on the train, creating a wonderful depth to the picture. Wild Spaces Category Winner
Louise Ward is our Wild Spaces Category Winner. Louise’s image is utterly charming. How could you not wish to be sat amongst those trees, admiring the comings and goings of long-tailed tits! The birds are perfectly framed and the light and colour of the sky create a beautiful, dreamy hue. It could be taken in any number of gardens, parks or green spaces across our region, but you can imagine the sights, sounds and experience as though of your own – the perfect, uplifting tonic of nature. Nicholas Horton
Under 18 Category Winner
Nicholas Horton is our Under 18 Category Winner. Whilst this blackbird may well have better hair days ahead of it, we were absolutely thrilled by this capture, taken by young Nicholas at just 10 years old! The composition is perfect to capture the bird’s portrait, creating a feel that a parting glance was being cast over its shoulder. With fabulous detail on show and a clear eye for a fine photograph, we can’t wait to see more of Nicholas’s photographs in the future! Nicholas wins £100 of Wex Photo Video vouchers.
Video Category Winner
Anne Brookes is our Video Category Winner. Have you ever seen a hedgehog battering ram? Neither had we until we watched Anne’s fabulous video! Capturing a very one-sided tussle between a pair of hedgehogs feeding in her garden, it’s a video which cannot help but raise a smile, and we’re sure there was enough food to go around to please both of these characterful creatures!
